Chartered Engineer (SG) in Sustainability Sector Certification Programme (CEng (Sustainability))
CEng (Sustainability) Certification Programme
Launched in March 2024, the Chartered Engineer (SG) in Sustainability sector Certification Programme (CEng (Sustainability)), developed by the IES Chartered Engineering Board (CEB), offers a formal training and certification system in the Sustainability sector. It aims to provide professional recognition to qualified engineers in Sustainability sector.
Being registered as a Chartered Engineer will be an external validation of your experience, expertise and practicing competence.
Training Course Content
The CEng (Sustainability) curriculum comprises both core and elective modules. Each candidate needs to undertake 4 core and 2 elective* modules, and at the end of each module, the individual has to take the respective examination. The candidate who passes the examinations for all 6 modules and fulfils other pre-requisites will qualify to be a CEng (Sustainability).

CM1: Introduction to Sustainability
CM2: Carbon Accounting Fundamentals
CM3: Sustainability Reporting
CM4: Sustainability Legislation Framework of Singapore
Elective Modules (EM)
EM1: Building Climate Resilience
EM2: Green Finance
EM3: Circular Economy
EM4: Sustainability Strategy and Roadmap
EM5: Clean Energy (Wind, Solar, Hydrogen)
EM6: Effective Sustainability Communications
Pre-requisites for CEng (Sustainability)*
- Washington Accord Degree or equivalent academic programme recognized by Professional Engineers Board (PEB)
- Minimum 4 years of working experience (in any field) as Engineer
*Candidates are not required to fulfil the above 2 pre-requisites if they are not intending to pursue the Chartership. They may enrol in the course modules purely for the purpose of enhancing their skills and knowledge in sustainability.

Candidates who meet the pre-requisites above and have successfully completed the 4 core modules and 2 elective modules may register for the CEng (Sustainability) certification with the IES Chartered Engineering Board here. Candidates will be required to submit a report and attend an assessment interview with IES.
Other important information
- For the 4 core and 2 elective modules, individuals may enrol in any of the accredited IHL course modules based on their preference i.e. they are not required to stick to 1 IHL for the 6 modules
- Certificate of completion (CoC) will be issued for every successful completion of a module, each CoC has a validity period of 3 years, i.e. the participant has to complete all 6 modules + report + assessment interview within 3 years.
